Rusks, a South African breakfast favorite for many, has never been high on my list of things to eat. Typically, they have been baked twice and are usually as hard as rock. I have spent too much time and money on fixing my teeth to loose or crack one over a morning biscuit…until now.
At the Constantia Market this past weekend, I had the good fortune to taste a number of lovely South African delicacies. The one that stood out most in my mind was Bea’s Rusks. I was a bit skeptical at first but once Philip, Bea’s husband and one man sales team, was finished with me, I was sold.
Not only are these rusks made with real butter and unrefined ingredients but they come in a number of different flavors. If you are diabetic, or glutten intolerant, Bea has created a rusk for you.
After the market and lunch, I made myself a coffee and dipped one of Bea’s muesli rusks in my cappuccino. Needless to say, I savored every bite and I am now sold on every morsel of these crunchy delights.
